Drs. Sandra Fisher and Catherine Connelly have put together a fact sheet and infographic (English and French) based on their open access paper Building the “Business Case” for Hiring People with Disabilities: A Financial Cost-Benefit Analysis Methodology and Example. In the paper they demonstrate how to empirically estimate the financial implications of hiring employees with disabilities.

Open Access MythBusting Paper: The Participation of People with Disabilities in the Workplace Across the Employment Cycle

In the paper led by Dr. Silvia Bonaccio of the University of Ottawa/Telfer School of Management and the CDPP Employment Team, evidence-based responses to 11 specific concerns that employers have about people with disabilities, from pre-employment and entry experiences to the final dissolution of the employment relationship are provided. The paper summarizes and evaluates the relevant empirical evidence, and provides recommendations for organization and avenues for future research.

Open Access Systematic Review: Work-focused interventions that promote the labour market transition of young adults with chronic disabling health conditions

A systematic review led by Dr. Arif Jetha, of the CDPP Employment Team, examined work-focused interventions to support the transition of young adults into the labour market. Results highlight the effectiveness of these interventions across different career stages and disability types.

Job Carving

This study explores the process of job carving (or job crafting) as a contributor to the quality of employment experiences for people with disabilities. We conducted three sets of focus groups, two with staff members from organizations offering employment support for job seekers with disabilities and one with employers and HR personnel.

Partnered Research

We propose that, to further enhance applied research, partnerships and integrating partner perspectives could be integral throughout the entire research process. An integrated partnered research approach has been fruitfully implemented in many other disciplines, particularly in the health sciences, including public health, rehabilitation science, kinesiology and community medicine, as well as in some areas of psychology such as community psychology. This approach potentially offers similar benefit to researchers in industrial/organizational psychology and organizational behaviour (IOOB).

This project explores the experiences of Canadians with mobility impairments who receive employment supports from community-based organizations. This national longitudinal research project examines employability, health and wellbeing, employment experiences, and other outcomes among individuals with physical health conditions who are receiving employment counselling services.

Quality of Participation Measure and Guide

CDPP researchers have developed a measure to evaluate the quality of participation for people with disabilities across employment, mobility, and sport and exercise life domains.

The Measure of Experiential Aspects of Participation (MeEAP) was designed to be conceptually aligned with the six experiential aspects of participation among people with physical disabilities (i.e., autonomy, belongingness, challenge, engagement, mastery, and meaning).
